This happened to me two weeks back.
One thing I have done now is put up a new security light that is linked to a chime box in the house. When the PIR picks up movement it sends a signal to the chime box and an alarm sounds inside the house.
Its pretty good. You can turn the alarm box on and off (I turn mine on before I go to bed) and if the PIR is set right it doesn't really pick up people walking on the pavement. Only when they approach my car.
So far the odd fox and the milkie have been surpised to see me looking out the window at 4 or 5.00am but I'd rather have that than another set of rims taken. I got my set up for ?40GBP and it simply connected to the same wiring as the old light. The alarm box is battery operated or you can get a mains adapter for it.
