pukka, I am aware of the attributes one would need to constitute a "good" salesperson. All I'm saying is this: there once was a time when having confidence and a good mouthpiece and a likeable personality was able to get you by as a "salesperson" and true knowledge of the product wasnt that important. These days, that doesnt really exist anymore. To garner a base salary of 100K+ commissions, you best know your product upside down. I am speaking from experience. I started out 18 yrs ago as a low six figure buckwild type of salesman. Confident in my sales ability but not caring about the product. Made lots of $ so gained even more confidence in my abilities and lack of true knowledge. Then I grew up. This is my big brother opportunity. Take it for what its worth.
I can't argue with 18 years experience, but I have done technical consultant work for a corporation whose salesforce wasn't knowledgeable on the product the way you would think they should be. On some levels, this sales mentality still does exist.
Regardless - thanks for the big bro opp.

How are so many people here affording an E60 if they don't have $100k+ jobs? Or is it that everyone's leasing them?
Very best of luck to all of the guys here looking for work.

We're not all in sales. And don't be fooled. The best sales guys can (and should be) very well remunerated. I know sales guys making over a million.

Well said. A salesperson who doesn't know what he's selling creates more problems in the end. He may be able to close the deal, but this creates more problems down the road, especially in the Tech/IT industry

Personally, I dont think I could do sales unless I REALLY knew what I was selling inside and out.
I do wish you all looking for jobs the best of luck. My mother is in real estate and currently having a very difficult time. That is as close to home as the recession has hit for me.
