Remember, the body is a disposable.
Your money will go into lenses and peripherals.
Canon generally has a broader range of lenses and they are better available in the second hand market.
Nikon quality is as good as canon, but not as widespread.
Oh, and the nikon 18-70 kitlens is 10X better than the canon plastic fantastic 18-55 lens (although much more expensive)
