I just received a fundraising request from the American Civil Liberties Union. In it, they ask for my money so they can oppose a whole host of practices that take place at Guantanamo (holding detainees w/o trials, the use of Military Commissions, etc.). They also ask for money to fight the use of torture by the president when interrogating terrorists.

Here's my question: What happened to the word "American" in the ACLU? When did they become the TCLU (Terrorist Civil Liberties Union) or ICLU (International CLU)?

I'm all about protecting civil rights and liberties and not having the government spy on citizens or torture citizens or anything else, but why would I pay money to support the rights of terrorists and, more importantly, why would the "A"CLU be the one leading the charge?

To me, the ACLU has so much promise and potential as an organization, but it has been hijacked by extreme left socialists.

OK, the rant is over. If no one responds, this post will slowly fade away into oblivion.

Yup, they have lost their way like most left leaning organizations. They all promote absurd concepts that have no basis in the realities of the modern world. And they are tearing this great country apart.
