Question

Well,
Last thursday night, on our way to go eat at Dolce, we hit TWO potholes in the carpool lane heading to the 101 from the 10 (east of Los Angeles).

It was a VERY LOUD thud both times. The car was driving well, so did not think anything of it. We went ahead and went to dinner.

Drove back home no problem either.

Next morning, I come out to inspect the tires....

Both passenger side tires had terrible sidewall damage. Neither were leaking however when I inspected. The wheels looked like they had black marks buried into the rim. (they would not come off with a little water and rubbing)

I took the car to the dealer friday morning. (about a mile away) When I got there, the front right finally started leaking air.

While pretty much the majority dislike the run-flat tires, I think this is another example where run-flats save the day.

I will post some pics when I get back to the house, later today.

Dealer says I will need to replace the wheels as well. With that said, the quote was $2,200. (Labour about $400 and Parts about $1,800)

The parts seem high, but I would like to get my 530 back to me, early as possible.

I put a claim into the Insurance, and downloaded the Caltrans pot-hole claim document. http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist07/claims/index.shtml

Wish me luck in getting it all repaired.

thanks
charley

ps. pictures to come

I will confirm with the dealer.

The black marks would not easily come off.
Potentially the wheels may be bent, i will confirm with the dealer.
thanks

So got the car back today. Wheels and tires look great.
Car drives GREAT.

got home -- noticed DOOR DAMAGE

http://www.charley-arica.com/albums/car-da...s/DSCF0021.html

It looks like someone backed into the car. (dent, rub marks, and then a scratch in the very bottom portion of door)

Took it back to dealer. They said they will have it taken care of.
My advisor was not in, so I will have to take it back in on monday.

ps. its hard to take pictures of dents because of reflection/lighting.

Oh man that sucks!! My friend ran over a pot hole on the 101 east just past universal studios in her new Jetta GLi 400 miles new and popped a tire... that sucked! This was about a week ago. We too put in a claim to Cal Trans for reimbursment for the tire and rim damage... Apparently they put Eagly F1s and those tire for the GLI are $280 just for the tire!!!!

Please, lets keep in touch to see how the claim goes...
