Maybe the 918RSR can do better against a Noble on the topgear/powerlaps than Porsche's best offering (the Carrera GT).
As for your design point, the design cues on the 918 come from the 917. A car which predated both the 918 and the Noble by about 40 years.

Porsche's fastest car is the GT2 RS. It has never done a Top Gear lap. Either way, the Carrera GT is still commanding close to 500k in the used market and it has one of the best engines ever to be installed in a production car. The Noble is essentially a kit car (and in the US was actually sold as such). Still, only one of the two cars you highlight is held out as a true exotic and one of the greatest cars ever to be built - and it isn't the Noble.

I am a Porsche fan. I've loved Porsches since I first saw a wail-tail 930 turbo in Stockholm in 1989! It was my first time traveling outside of the then Soviet Union, so everything I've seen before didn't hold a candle to this beast. I'll never forget that maroon wide-body beauty! And the next day I actually saw a 959... but I'm telling you, the 918 is giving me that same sensation - which I haven't had for years, decades!

Well, when the E60 came out, I was stunned. When E92 came out I was seriously impressed. When the F01 came out, I loved it. Now, the F10 with M Sport pack - first time I saw it in person I was stunned (especially, since I didn't even like the F10 without the M-sport). I love the X6 and in general, I think BMW still makes the most cars I love out of any make. That said, I do love me a Boxster S and the Cayman. 911 - goes without saying. And now, with the 918, I've got a legit dream car here All I've gotta do now is figure out how to get my share of that Russian oil/gas/coal money
