I do know there are still many fine watches that are made as manual only, but never thought to question if its by choice or a necessity but I'm going to do some research to find out!
I have two manual winders, one is from the early 60s and is a wrist watch, and I also have a pocket watch circa late 19th to early 20th century, though not exactly sure, in the past I had assumed that manuals were "old" watches, but as new watches are still offered as such, there may be a reason other than just technology.
For everyday though, can't be an automatic.

Its a great question really, I'm not sure if it is the intricate movement that "requires" the Manual winding, or perhaps the jewels or even design spacing, or if its just for a historical, classical point of view as a fine watch if you know what I mean.

I'm interested in getting a Tag heuer Grand Carrera, but I'm not sure which Calibre to get.

Tags are great watches, and the Grand Carrera is really nice...my first automatic was a Tag 4000 that I got in '94 and wore for a long time, and is a nice part of my collection.
Good luck and let us know when u pick yours up!

Very, very nice box!!! one of the finest in the world actually for one of the finest movements in the world!!
When I got mine, I couldn't believe the detail in just this box alone, but it is certainly a statement, and quite useful tools, and made my rolex box look like cr*p, and I used to think it was soo cool!!
This is Officine Panerai, btw. I just love em!

And Breitlings are ok too, I'm just not into them and wouldn't compare the movement to that of panerai...but this is a nice looking watch regardless...u need to get into watches, I'm sure u can enjoy nice discounts on some serious equiptment!

My Ride: 545I and a half dozen other rides
I don't know if the price savings is that great, as they are still expensive with all discounts put in.
Of course that's from a person not into watches.
If you ever need anything pm me, my wife works with someone in the ny area everyday and ships back and forth to them regularly.
