The time has come -- at least Apple thinks so.

In fairness, Apple already recommended that its users use AV software, and for Mac users it's always been the responsible thing to do. Even though the number of attacks specific to the Mac are few and far between, a Mac user could, of course, easily and inadvertently promulgate a virus aimed at another OS.

i personally don't use AV and never had a problem with that. my opinion is that paying extra $$ for this is a waiste of money, even if you use windows. AV is acually slowing down the system and the result is a poor performance.

well of couse if you browsing a porn websites and opening spam links in your email then it's a different story

Yes they included some malware protection but from what i've read the "list" of known malware consists of only 2 (two) malware entities.

Probably that list will be updated via software update.

Dead on - the rumors weren't accurate. As you say, there are only a couple of known malware packages, and the system will warn you if you're about to open one of them. It will be an easy process to add more via software update.

I'm installing 10.6 today (assuming my disk shows up...)

I've been somewhat amused by the idiots on other websites describing 10.6 as a "service pack", forgetting that we get those all the time via software update, and ignoring the significant changes in 10.6 compared to 10.5.

Yep. Especially those that have no clue what our software updates are...

I installed 10.6 on all of our machines last Friday. I am pleased with the update - it is faster, Time Capsule back up is much faster, Safari is faster and IMHO, the video for iChat has really been improved.
