For what it's worth, I paid $2.71/gallon for gas today in Northern California.

Yes, it's cheap relative to European standards, but is absurdly high for here.

Ask George Dumbya Bush why the prices are so high, all his buddies run the oil companies.

It's Dumbya's form of wealth transfer (hidden tax) from the middle class to the corp. class.

More realistically.... Ask the Communist Chinese why its so high.... They are the ones hogging the market.... BTW... If the average Chinaman had the average daily oil usage of the average Mexican, there would not be enough oil production. Yet billions of barrels lay dormant in ANWAR. Oh yeah, we don't want to kill the elk... I forgot.

There is enough oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge(ANWR) for 60 days of U.S. use. No more than that. It will also take 10 years to get it.
There is no way increased domestic drilling will meet
America?s energy needs. America uses 25 percent of the world?s oil
production, but only has 3 percent of the world?s oil reserves.

Based on calculations from figures provided by the Energy Information
Administration at: http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/cabs/usa.html#oil

Maybe there is more potential than you think.

Member, you're right, domestic drilling will not handle our oil needs. But get off the high horse about US oil consumption. We are the world's oil pig and have been for decades. Can you show what Bill Clinton accomplished in his 8 yrs in office to reverse this? Nothing. Just like George Bush can't hope to accomplish anything. We here in America have the totally wrong mind set about our use of oil and unfortunately, the only thing will really change anything is to hit us where it counts, in the pocket book. Until there is some economic incentive for consumers to reduce their demand OR for oil companies to spend the MUTLI-BILLIONS needed to meet that demand, we are stuck with high and rising oil prices. There was a recent article in Forbes (yes, another source of partisan hackery) where someone (forgive me, I can't remember who) was quoted as saying "we are not running out of oil, we are running out of cheap oil" The fact is, less than 1/3 of U.S reserves ever discovered have been produced. Until there is the economic incentive to produce this oil which harder (and more expensive!) to produce, these barrels won't be produced. And that goes for oil reserves around the world. Of course none of us on this forum who have bought cars that get 16 MPG in the city have any real right to complain about oil prices. If they impact us that much, let's trade in the E60's and buy our hybrid cars and do our part. Otherwise, this is a waste of a thread! <_<

And of course, what ever Kerry says, just like Iraq, deficit reduction or oil prices, he has no plan. Except maybe to socialize it like he wants to do with medical insurance, but I digress...

I'm not sure what you mean by high horse, all I said was we consume 25% of the worlds production and have 3% of the reserves. We only have 5% of the world's population, so I agree with you that we are oil pigs. I was saying ANWR is not going to help the situation.
