Ever seen a person holding a sign on the side of the road? the smoothie place here does it, today I saw someone doing it for papa johns.

How does the decision process to send an employee out there go?

"Hey, lets use that giant stick to hold our 'sale' sign up"
"Nah, we might need that, have John hold the sign up"

Anyone here own/manage a business that does this? Why is this a good decision?
Anyone here actually do this? If so, how do you afford a BMW? Are you useful at your place of work?

I think this has something to do with permit avoidance, hence cheaper cost. If you put up a sign you need permission but if a person is holding one up then you don't need it. I think its similar to these huge billboards that are built on the back of trucks and are parked on the side of the road.

Do you look at billboards?
Do you look at friendly looking people holding signs?

Somewhat related, but I feel badly for anyone who has to wear a costume outside. It has to be uncomfortable. A few times I've seen some poor bastard dressed as a quart of oil pacing in front of Jiffy Lube hawking the $19.99 Early Bird Special.

Last year I was invited to a dinner reception at Michigan State University in East Lansing, and the Spartan mascot guy was walking around to the tables yucking it up with the guests. It was summer, and he'd been out in the sun for a while with the cheerleaders doing his bit prior to coming inside. He smelled like my high school locker room after an early season football game. Needless to say, after that, the Cammembert was not well-received.

My ex brother-in-law is from Perry and went to MSU. I've visited the area. Nice campus.

Are you from that area?
Nah, just visiting. We flew into Detroit and drove the rest. I agree, it is a very beautiful area. It was a great drive through the countryside.
