Here's how it works:

Take the answer you typed in, add the digits, and round it up to the nearest multiple of 9. Your guess is the difference between the nearest multiple and the sum of the digits.

Eg: say I start with 6537. Jumble it to be 3765. The result is 2772 (i.e. 6537-3765 =2772). If you circle the last 2, then ur input is 277 (or 727, or 772).

Add 2,7,7 = 16. The closest multiple of 9 is 18. The difference between 16 and 18 is, drum-roll, 2.

You see why they don?t want u to cicrlce 0 now?

I understand the "how" but not the "why." So, why do multiples of 9 work? Is it because by eliminating zero as a choice there are 9 digits left to use?
