We do NOT need your telethons, cd's, or really anything else. We do NOT need Angelina Jolie rushing to adopt kids (they have parents already).
Thank you

A couple of thoughts 1) Chile is also the site of the worlds strongest ever recorded earthquake, we've done this before. 2) anyone else notice how quick the response was and how they are already cleaning up the mess?

I still love the current Chilean national motto:

Por la razon o la fuerza (By reason or by force) Either way we get what we want

Good to read your comments about Chile. Did you immigrate to the USA? If so, you are one of approximately 115,000 Chileans who have immigrated to the US. More Chileans have come to the US than to any other country.

Wonder what the reasons are for the immigration? Perhaps in the past 25 years it was to flee political persecution (Pinochet). Best wishes to the Chileans on a speedy recovery.

Actually you are correct, my parents emigrated in 1970 after they elected the Communist Allende. Pinochet restored the country to what it should be (without a single dollar from the US to do it too). Chile today (because of Pinochet) has a higher literacy rate (95% vs 73%US), higher educational level (University is free in Chile), free healthcare WITHOUT a single payer system (every Dr in Chile MUST volunteer a certain # of hrs a month in a Govt hospital to remain licensed) than the US and - unlike the rest of Latin America, Chile did not owe a dime to the US during Pinochet's rule.

Great stats on Chile but then one wonders why so many Chileans want to live in the US but so few Americans want to live in Chile...

Where do you get the idea "so many Chileans want to live here"? You quoted around 115,000, how insignificant a number is that compared to the total number of immigrants? Seem pretty arrogant for Americans to always think everyone is "beating down the doors" to live here.

You'll be better served if you re-read my post. It said nothing about Americans always thinking everyone is beating down the door to move to America. You obviously have my post confused with someone else.

It is a fact that 115,000+ Chileans would rather live in America than in Chile. I characterize 115,000 people as "many". The number of American wanting to live in Chile is negligible. It is a fact that of all the Chileans wanting to leave Chile and live somewhere else, the greatest number come to America rather than anywhere else in the world. My question is simply why do so many Chileans want to live in America?

^^Guys, over 300 people are reported dead at the moment. Perhaps we should save this debate for a more appropriate time?

I couldn't agree more, there are still innocent people stuck in rubble.
