I agree with the verdict reached in that thread - that more images need to be seen. The D80 does appear to be much better at handling noise than the D200 though. Luminance noise is the more difficult to correct, and it's "baked" into the detail of the image. Chrominance noise is trivial to correct, and can be done without harming detail, so the current trend of Nikon DSLRs having less chroma noise is pretty meaningless.

Customers just rated Olympus the best camera in the $600+ range. Nikon is second with Canon 3rd.
Looks to me like that survey was for P&S cameras. They would have further stratified the results above $600 if DSLRs had been included.

Heheh - nope. I just -bought- an old 6x9 rangefinder... Having loads of fun with it.
Oh, and I dug up this white paper. About mid-way through on page 13, there's some interesting stuff that relates to some of the questions you had.

The D80 is a pretty hotly anticipated cam. You can buy and return within 2 weeks from Penn Camera if you're curious.
