Gene's right.
Gene is very rarely ever wrong.

I will never forget September 11, 2001. I was living and working in New York then as now. The sight of the smoke rising from the pile and the horrible smell of the pile that wafted into our neighorhood whenever the winds blew from south to north (in the direction of my apartment) were horrible and unforgettable.

I remember seeing thousands and thousands of people walking updown from downtown on their way home. Despite the masses of people, they were quiet. Silent actually. After the attack, the City closed the 59th St. Bridge to cars and I saw thousands and thousands of people were walking over the bridge on the roadway.

My wife and I went from blood donation sight to blood donation site looking to donate blood. But each of them turned us away because they were innundated with donors already. The pictures that people put up everywhere in Manhattan of their missing loved ones were heartbreaking.

fellas, IMO: let's leave the political views/speeches for another thread/time

let's just keep this thread on topic and just remember the events of this day, lives lost this day, and wish their families and friends well....

Agreed!

I am in politics myself...

Political debates are not something you want to have in car forums.
They get heated and easily out of control fast.

IMHO we should not have ANY political discussions on the forum.
Not in a new thread, not on 5series.net.

Wow, Mel, that's an incredible story! Glad to know that your dad is still around for you and your kids...

My son has a classmate who lost his dad in the towers. (He and his mom moved here after the tragedy to be closer to their extended family.)

Never forget!!

I'm lucky enough to get to spend 5 or 6 weeks a year in the city on business and have made a lot of good friends over the years. I can't tell you how wonderful and special a place NYC can be. Seeing those photos brings back all of the emotions we felt on that day. It is important to see them so that we never forget.

B

P.s. Packing for a trip to NY as we speak........... and I cannot wait to get there!!!

Although most people immediately remember the attack on the World Trade Center in NYC, we can never forget the simultaneous attack on the Pentagon nor should we forget the heroes of USAirways flight 93 that crashed in a rural area just outside of Pittsburgh on that day!!

You are right Rudy. My best friend from college worked at DOD in the Pentagon on 9/11 and was in the Pentagon on 9/11. When I saw the pictures on TV, I got sick with worry for him. Thankfully, he worked on the opposite side of the Pentagon from where the plane hit.

Iceman, you are correct about not having political debates here. Those have been the source of some of the most contentious stuff here in the time when I have been active (such as the threads on the health care plan and on immigration).

I am also active in politics so it sometimes is hard not to get drawn into a debate on politics but you are right that there are other places to have those kinds of debates.

Mel, I'm so glad your dad was able to get out.

In addition to the many personal stories of that day, I often think back to the sense of country we all had immediately after. This sense of unity was the only good that could possibly come out of that tragic event, and we need to try to remember and hold on to that.

Amen!

With that being said we should also not forget all the kids and families that lost their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq during the "war against terror".

Like them, the people @ WTC had no clue and very much no business with what the governments do, decide and act.
