Parochialism is one thing but posts like this are just flat out silly. What were the circumstances of the collision? If the car was hit in the back by a 40 ton semi going 100, well the result would be the same in any car I imagine. I know of a lady who died in a new 7 two years ago. Does this mean "don't buy a BMW".

And the e60 only got 4 stars in the NCAP tests.

Don't kid yourselves, bad luck can befall anyone in any car.

I know it says 4!

If you read the detail
......"The 5-Series has a very strong and stable passenger safety cage. It achieved a four-star rating after Euro NCAP allowed frontal, side and pole retests following improvements to the car?s steering column, footrest, door trim, door latch, airbags and software."

WOuld not like to be a pedestrian eek!

Right, and it only managed 4 after retests and a 1/4 on pedestrian rating. What did it get before them? And the Citroen C6 which has been given fairly ordinary reviews by the press got a 5/5 and 4/4 rating. Renault Laguna 5/5 2/4, Pug 407 5/5 2/4. Are the French ahead of the Germans on safety....after all in its day the Citroen ID was probably the safest car around.
