Berlin is packed with history and stuff to do and see.

You can go to the Mauer-Museum @ Checkpoint Charlie, or visit the Holocaust Memorial... visit the Reichstag... See the Blue Man Group... Well, you don't need to do that on a vacation to Germany.

Have you read the Wikitravel? Maybe this will help you a little.

What exactly do you want to do/see? Berlin is HUGE. A lot of nice places there... Parks, Castles...

thanks for your suggestions.

We have 4 days in Berlin, first time to Germany and I guess mostly sightseeing. Castles, Museum, food, beer & little shopping preferred. Any BMW & beer factory tour possible close to Berlin? I am not interested in holocaust memorial, I am not jewish and I agree what Mel Gibson said.

Say, 1 day shopping, 1 day for museum, 1 day for castles and 1 day for factory tour?

I can recommend a stroll on the Unter den Linden. For a car fanatic it's quite nice... there is a shopping mall with cars only - OK it's the VW Group so you don't want to spend too much time with a Polo or a Touran but there is always the Bugatti Veyron! Beautiful car...

Not far from UdL is the Museumsinsel, the Museum Island. A couple of hours at the Pergamon Museum is well invested time.

Another Tourist trap that actually could be worth considering is the famous Kaufhaus des Westen, KaDeWe. 7 floors with everything you can think of. But beware, the prices are not the lowest. As an example, I found my good ol' Twinings Earl Grey costing 8 Euros at KaDeWe compared to the 4,50 I pay at home. And the packaging was the same.

Germany's most popular beer (not my taste), Bitburger:

If you like black beer (i like it ), K?stritzer:

If you have luck, you can get Rippchen mit Kraut. Originally it's a speciality of hesse, but maybe you have luck. Otherwise: Link.

Unfortunately no factory tour (the BMW factory in Berlin produces only motorcycles and car parts), but maybe you would like to visit the BMW House?

BMW House
Kurf?rstendamm 31
D-10719 Berlin
Germany

Link to the BMW House, unfortunately only in German.

The only interesting factory I could think of is in Leipzig, where the 3-series is produced (and the production of the 1-series should also start there soon). And although Munchen is further away, Leipzig still is nowhere "near" Berlin. But still, it would be really worth a visit. It is on of the most modern factories around there days, and even the architecture is worth it (the building received the German price for architecture in 2005). Check out the link below for the factory website, so you can see for yourself.

My suggestion? If you have the time, maybe rent a BMW (a 525d or Z4 Convertible @ Sixt or so) and drive down to Leipzig.

So you get:
- Factory tour;
- Fun day with a BMW;
- Fun day with a BMW on the Autobahn (flat out).

Your lucky, I'm in a good mood, I have looked the distance up for you (dude, I just saw that they have a road named after them ):

From Unter den Linden it is around 185 kilometers, which would be around a 2hours drive. Of course you will drive quite some stretches on the Autobahn, so undoubtedly you will be able to cut down on travel time.

BMW AG
Werk Leipzig
BMW Allee 1
04349 Leipzig

Website of the BMW factory in Leipzig, go to guided plan tours. I think you can make reservations there.

Btw, I had no plans for my summer holiday yet (I'm a student living in Holland), but maybe I'll rent a nice BMW for the weekend, and also drive to Germany to see an interesting factory. So thanks for bringing my attention to that!

Ich hoffe Berlin wird dir genau so gut gefallen wie es mir gefallen hat!

Thank you very very much!! I think my 4 days in Berlin will completely fill with fun!!

Also thanks to sese & BMWskipper!! you guys are awesome!! Indeed, I just made reservation to BMW Leigzip on May 3 or 4. We got our E60 last Christmas and loving it. Driving on Autobahn and visiting BMW factory is really a cool thing to do. I hope you enjoy your trip to Leigzip too. =)

I had never tried K?stritzer, but I am really looking forward to. Meanwhile I am keeping my eye open to see if any local beer import company carry K?stritzer. I just can't wait... =P

Besides Germany, we will spend 2 days in Amsterdam, 3 days in Brussels and 4 days in London too. We planned this trip 6 months ago and we are very excited that May is just 3 more months ahead.

I use my MAC to translate "Ich hoffe Berlin wird dir genau so gut gefallen wie es mir gefallen hat!" (I hope it translate correctly) However, I am sure I am going to love Berlin as much as I love my country!

Danke!
