With it being school holidays in many parts of Germany and Benelux, and many people travelling to Austria skiiing, I hope none of our members from those countries were caught up in this either.

I was caught in mild snow showers on the motorway at the weekend and it caused lots of minor accidents, made worse with all the heavy holiday traffic  Fortunately I did not see anything like what Marc post above. Its really no fun driving in those kind of conditions, but some times you just get caught in them mid journey.

Let's hope none of our Austrian members was there...
Our local news mentioned one casualty, about 30 injured and over 100 cars damaged.
My God, some pictures are seriously frightening..

...well - just a bit of info on the location of the accident. It happened on the main highway that goes from vienna to germany. It happens that the highway passes through the lake district, and believe or not, you could have sun all over austria, but this one stretch of 5 km could be extremely foggy - just the constellation around the lake district and location of the highway. well, obviously if all around austria the weather is bad, then the situation there must have been terrible. in this case, it was foggy plus snow fall and UNFORTUNATELY people were driving faster than they should have without recognizing the risk. Yes we have ESP, DTC and whatever they are all called, but if the weather is bad, people should respect it. It is a shame that a lady from Switzerland died, 6 other people badly injured nad 37 injured

My condolences to the family of the deceased. Judging by the pics, thank God there wasn't more loss of life. Certainly the potential for multiple fatalities was there. We can all be a lil safer (especially myself). This is a reminder as to why.
