You have a beautiful family John! And... a good start to a new hobby! The great thing about digital photography is that you get to experiment without worrying about film. Play around with your shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposure compensation, lighting and camera angles to get variations on your shots. You have a great camera to start with and a broad focal range coverage with your lenses. Take lots of pictures and get a feel for what you like and what looks good to your eyes. Have fun with your new hobby... and remember, the world can always use better pictures!
thanks! i've heard great things about this camera to get me started, but just like with my car - i'm sure i'll be upgrading just as soon as i get the hang of this thing!

thanks! it's like night and day when it comes from going to a point and shoot camera to a SLR! but once you get the hang of it, it's fun and it really gets your creative juices flowin'!

thanks for the advice! i love using the DOF in my pix, just give it such a great lookin' pic! but at times, seems as if i can't turn the the f/ down lower than 5.5. i'm assuming the there's not enough lighting. i'm still using the semi-auto modes.
one of the best features of Canon is the ISO. Tweak it up to get faster shutter speeds..a bright lens to start with helps as well !

great fotos
