They will stop developing dual players VERY soon ...
no way unless all film company stick to 1 format.
as you well know China dose very good copys.
and cheep players
when china design and starts to make the duel players very cheep(under $120us), the hole world would get there hands on it, just like the DVD that played DIVX when it 1st came out.
Do you know that you can get a DVD play for under $18us in China and it play all DVD formate, avi,rm etc......

I understand that TrueHD may be more efficient by compressing the audio but how is it better than LPCM? I always thought the reason for the HDDVD mandate of TrueHD was because of the space limitation on the format. I have quite a few uncompressed LPCM Blu-Ray disks that are 48kHz/24-bit. Is TrueHD able to offer better audio quality? I think the biggest problem is that not all studios offer up high quality audio on these formats. However, when I look at some of the early SD DVD's that I purchased back in 1997 I see that even DVD has come a long way over the years and hopefully so will HDM. Going to a single HDM format should help at the cost of impacting our wallets.

No, it shouldn't be better than LPCM... I just checked again - it appears that Blu-Ray mandates LPCM on titles - that should even things out. Guess it's not a big deal then.

The TrueHD -could- provide up to 8 channels at 96/24, but studios aren't doing that at this time, opting for 48/24.

I think Dolby TrueHD is just Meridian Lossless Packing (MLP), so if you have DVD-Audio you can compare 48/24 vs. 96/24 vs. 192/24.

Not to mention the Chinese have their own HD disc format...

With any luck, the disc distribution paradigm will be dead soon. This debate... this "format war" is like arguing over which paper our books are printed on.

Maybe it's because I live near Washington DC and we're so full of acronyms in everything we do around here but I think Blu-Ray rolls off the tongue while HD-DVD just sounds like another alphabet soup government name.

As an example, where I work we have names for things that are acronyms buried three layers deep and people don't even remember what the original acronyms were. And this isn't even a government job.

Heh - speaking of which... I love goofing on that HD-DVD television ad with Michael Imperioli (Christopher on the Sopranos). He sounds like he's brain damaged when he says HD-DVD.

Toshiba is slashing prices on their players... ~$130 for an HD-A3...

Not bad considering you can rent 400 titles from Netflix...
