My old DLP TV is due for replacement and I was looking at the 55" Samsung LED LCD with 240hz refresh (the model number is UN55B8000). I know there's another Samsung coming soon with local LED dimming, so I was wondering if any of you guys had any thoughts on whether to wait for the new model (or just bite the bullet as the UN55B8000 is on sale right now). Alternatively, I wondered whether anyone had any other suggestions on different TV's? I'd like a 50" plus set, either LCD or plasma. Any and all input welcome!
Drive more ... watch TV less ...

If you can't control the urge the only issue will be can you wait as new technologies and enhancements are pushed out every 6 months. I'm still having trouble sorting through what the marketing guys are saying and how that synchs up with technology that actually makes TV viewing better?? Either way, last gen TV's are dropping in price like appointments made by Democrats!

Aaaah, never mind. The OLED TVs are still limited in size. Here's a Sony 11" OLED TV and it's $2500 I guess I am still a couple of years away from a big cheap OLED TV. My wait continues...
OLED is the next big thing. The TVs are much lighter and thinner. They also consume less power.

The Sony XBR is consistently among the top-rated HDTVs. I have two of them: a 37 incher in the bedroom and a 46 incher in the living room. They are terrific TVs. A little pricey but worth every penny.
XBR is my favorite. My last tube TV is Sony XBR and it still looks great even though its not HDTV.

Thanks for the feedback guys - really appreciate everyone's suggestions.

I took a look at the XBR's today too, specifically the 52" XBR-9, it is indeed an awesome set.

Also took a look at the Panasonic V10s per UUronL's suggestion - another most excellent range of TV's. Trouble is, unless I have it wrong there's only one model with the 96hz refresh (the TC-P54Z1) and it's running close to 5K... The other V10's run quite a bit cheaper and the picture is still very good indeed although obviously not as good as the TC-P54Z1 (which is indeed phenomenal). The 50" and 54" V10 look very good to me and there seem to be a few good deals out there.

So - still looking, but getting close!

No man, there is one model -other- than the entire V10 line that has 96Hz. So to recap...

The TC-P54Z1 has 96Hz, and then the TC-P50V10, TCP54V10, TC58V10, and TC65V10 all have 96Hz.

The 50" and 54" have the "one sheet of glass design".

That is interesting. We're not seeing wider aspect ratio sets being sold in the US. What is the resolution of that panel?

Bite the bullet with that sale, you can't go wrong with a 240Hz LED ever
