I did a bit of searching, but didn't really find what I'm looking for. I'm in the market for a simple point and shoot digital camera. Looking to spend about $150-$300ish. Just about the only important characteristic is picture quality. A quick operating and shooting camera would also be nice. But am willing to sacrifice some features for picture quality. Looking for something that I can likely walk in to a Best Buy, etc. and find at a good price.

So please help and shoot some models back at me. Thanks

All of my pics are shot on a Sony DSC-T200. That camera is ultra-portable, super slim and fits in your pocket easily next to a wallet. The pros are that it takes good pictures and that it is so portable. The con is that its zooming capability is mediocre. Here is the link to the current model: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores...552921665953349

It is very simple to operate and takes good pictures. But if you want a small camera with a big internet zoom lens, look elsewhere.

The leica c lux 3 retails for $500 but i believe there is a sale plus a factory rebate so it goes for approximately $350.
Thinking about getting one myself.

I'm a Canon guy. Some of the Canon Powershot SD models are pretty good point and shoot camera. You should do some research first and see what other features are important to you. Go to dpreview.com there are tons of info. I'm sure there are other sites that other members might suggest. Good luck with your search.

I'm usually a Canon guy. I have the Canon DSLR XTi
and another Canon Elph SD600 which my 7 yo. uses on a regular basis.

Lately, I've had my eyes on the Olympus Stylus Tough-8000

12MP / 3.6x optical zoom / 2.7" color monitor

SHOCKPROOF (6.6ft.)
Life can be tough, this camera is tougher. Rugged metal body and
revolutionary shock-absorbing construction are designed to withstand
a 6.6-foot drop, bump or other mishap.

WATERPROOF (33ft.)
A revolutionary system of waterproof seals and gaskets keeps water
out so you can take pictures as deep as 33 feet underwater.

FREEZEPROOF (14?F/-10?C)
Boldly enter that winter wonderland without worrying about your
camera. This camera is winterized to perform at below-freezing
temperatures.

CRUSHPROOF (220lbf.)
With a rugged body and reinforced LCD, the STYLUS TOUGH-8000
withstands up to 220 pounds of pressure so your camera and
images are protected.

DUAL IMAGE STABILIZATION
Forget about blurry shots with this 2-in-1 anti-blur solution. Sensor-Shift
Image Stabilization compensates for camera shake to keep your shots
steady while Digital Image Stabilization captures crisp, clear images in
any situation.

$289 (lowest price online) Black

$297.95 (lowest price online) Silver

It's a great all-around camera that you can take anywhere with you.

Canon apparently also has an all-around rugged camera, Powershot D10.

But then again, if you're not going to use the camera underwater,
skiing or snowboarding etc. then there are certainly other better
cameras out there.

Any Canon Elph
Yeah, I am leaning towards a Canon Powershot SD780. Anyone familiar with it? The sample pictures look like it is great outdoors for greens/blues/contrast, etc., but it doesn't look exception for indoors or low light situations. Almost all of my use will be outdoors so that is more important. However, can anyone suggest something that is as good in outdoor situations as the SD780, but maybe performs well in low light situations as well?

The body of a point and shoot is too small to house the optics required to gather light you need for indoors. To take good indoor photos you need an SLR and good flash sequenced lighting which means more $$ and less portability. I have an Canon PowerShot SD870 IS. It lets me adjust the white balance for decent indoor pix. The image stabilization helps as well in all lighting.

I understand the inherent limitations of a point and shoot, but for my purposes those limitations are outweighed by the ease and convenience of a small point and shoot. I'm glad to see that someone who seems to know a bit about photography chose the a Canon Powershot as well. Is the 870 an older model? It looks like all the stores are currently carrying the 780.
