The Lone Ranger -Johnny Depp as Tonto????

Disney is going to release a Lone Ranger movie with Johnny Depp starring as Tonto. Before I start my rant let me make this clear, I think Johnny Depp is great actor. He has played in many unforgettable roles and is a joy to watch. Let the rant begin.
WTF!!! Johnny Depp as Tonto. Really, was Brad Pitt or some other fine white actor not available. To be fair, Depp's great grandmother was full blooded cherokee so on some level someone could make the argument that he could play Tonto. Wil Smith probably has some white ancestry but bloggers were up in arms a few weeks ago when it was rumored that he might play Captain America.
My beef is that when it comes to roles for minority heroes there are few and far between. For Johnny Depp to play Tonto seems to be a stretch. The role could go to an American Indian actor.
