I'm sitting here at my desk working browsing these forums, when I hear someone outside yell "Call the fire dept!!!" I looked out side and saw a HUGE black cloud of smoke rising from the other side of a building near by.. I ran down there to see a BMW X5 in roaring flames! Then BOOM! I guess one of the tires blew... Then another BOOM!

.. Anyway, I ran back to get my cell to take a pic, and by the time I got back down there the Fire Dept had everything under control:

They said the X5 was turned off, just sitting there when it somehow caught fire. I have no idea what could have caused the fire.. Any ideas?

I do know the X5 just came from $1,500+ in repairs at our local indy shop down the street...

Hard to tell the source from that pic, but definately under the hood.
The repairs might have something to do with it...

If you could give us a pic of the engine it would be easier to tell...

Anyways, always hard to see such a car wrecked...

not surprised. I have already had a wire harnesses to my tail light replaced because it shorted and melted. I have also had the wire harnesses and headlight housings changed on both headlights because one kept shorting out and melting, so they replaced both for safety. BMWs are gigantic pieces of shit that are quick and handle very well.

did a quick search for "bmw catching on fire" and came to this thread on topix :

http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/bmw...VJJA2Q79QUHKB8

Apparently there are A LOT of cases of X5's randomly catching on fire....and many other BMW's as well. I haven't seen any cases of this with the E60s yet, however I have seen some cases of E90 fires

Some have lost their homes, pets and everything to these random fires. Most of the cases I have read about involve the vehicle being parked and off.

Have you guys heard anything/ know anybody that have been though this? I couldn't imagine!!! And I sit here every day at work (usually checking out this site) while my 5 sits IN MY GARAGE AT HOME. I would lie if I said this doesn't make me a little nervous.

That was his daughter's car. She is in her 30's, a layer currently running for Secretary of State(I'm sure he'll give her another one). He owns one of the nations largest catering companies. He has dozens of vehicles, including other X5's, Land Rovers, Jag's etc.. He is also knee-deep into funding politicians though contributions, in exchange for catering contracts/emergency disaster relief contracts. It's like a big revolving circle of money. He is the only person I know of who literally made TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS off of Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters. My family has told me he is crooked as hell, but that's not for me to judge.

...Any way, HER next car will probably be another X5 or Land Rover.
