BMW has done an April Fools prank such as this for years. Last year was "BMW has uninvented the wheel" - a vehicle that could be driven from either the left or right to satisfy EU left side only laws (pending). Prior to that there was the set of lasers that heated the road in front of you so that the road conditions would always be the same. I think you can find a list of some if not all on the main website.
