Alex, if you are in LA, here's couple good places to visit for their outstanding architectural design.
Getty Museum - http://www.getty.edu/
Walt Disney Concert Hall - http://wdch.laphil.org/home.cfm - very similar design to Guggenheim in Spain
Pasadena Old Town - http://www.oldpasadena.com/
If you're looking for some unique residential design, drop by to Santa Monica and Venice beach area. Plenty of interesting architectural design there.

If you'll be near downtown Los Angeles, I'd recommend the following:
Hama Sushi
347 E 2nd St
Los Angeles, CA 90012
(213) 680-3454
They have the highest quality fish I've ever eaten. It's not a fancy place, so don't expect to be fine dining. But if you want the freshest tasting sushi and don't want to break your piggy bank, I'd highly recommend it. It's a small sushi bar, so they tend to get crowded. I'd get there right @ 5:30pm when they open.
Shabu Shabu House Restaurant
127 Japanese Village Plz Mall
Los Angeles, CA 90012
(213) 680-3890
One of the oldest restaurants in the J-Town and they have the highest quality meat for Shabu Shabu. They use premium cuts of thinly sliced USDA rib-eye. Again, not a place for fine dining, but if you want some good eats... I'd highly recommend it. The waiting list here gets to be 2 pages long before they even open, so get there before 5:30pm to reserve your seats!
I live in downtown LA, so if you'd like some company for dinner... I'd be happy to join you!

As for the shabu-shabu, that place is really good but I'm Japanese and can tell you for the price that they charge and the amount that you get, just make it on your own! It tastes just as good....My g/f can make even better shabu-shabu with her 'konbu dashi' (broth) and she buys the prime meat and organic vegetables + makes her own 'niniku goma dare' (garlic sesame dipping sauce) and special ponzu dipping sauce as well....Damn, I'm getting really hungry.

Maybe we can arrange a local meet in LA. Japanese food and e60 should be a good reason for a dinner.
Unfortunately I can't take my M5.
