This is the aftermath of a 600 km (400 mile) road trip from Berlin to Warsaw, at some seriously illegal speeds yesterday afternoon. I haven't seen anything this bad before. It sounded like driving in rain when they were hitting the windscreen at over 100 mph and 5 minutes after pulling out of a petrol station and having the windscreen cleaned it was covered with bugs again. Had some fun with my Kaercher pressure washer this morning and all is back to normal.

Roll on summer!

I guess you did Slubice-Poznan-Warsaw? Drove that a couple of times a couple of years back and that is some road indeed. Good fun in the wee hours of the morning though!

Yup. Wrote more in the Spirited Performance Driving thread. There's now a very good motorway for about 350 of the 500 kms from the border to Warsaw and the remainder has been widened significantly.

We had an abnormally warm winter this year which is why there are more bugs than usual. 80% of that lot were picked up on the stretch from the border to Poznan.

Don't wait too long with cleaning those bugs (you already noted that you used the Kaercher already), because sometimes those bugs can burn into the paint and cause some damage there. At least, the paint on 3-series is subject to that. Guess they use the same on the 5-series?

I always clean them off right after I get back. When the corpse's are still fresh and steamy they come off much easier . I've tried different methods and my favourite is a bucket of hot water with some car shampoo. The Kaercher takes a while and messses up the rest of the car with water scale deposits if it's clean.

It actually looked pretty funny because the whole car was spotless and shining until you came round the front...

I just drove 1,200 miles over the weekend, and the van I rented looked the same way. I wouldn't want to drive my E60 on those long trips.

haha! that's the way to go..

After a high speed journey this summer from St. Tropez in France to Copenhagen, Denmark:

It's a bugs life-bugs.jpg

I always wash the car (or at least the front) the day after a journey during the summer with all the bugs.

I'm using the Kaercher high-pressure to clean the car, before I wash it, but when the hole car is clean and only the front looks like this, I'm cleaning it the same way as you, PoleApart

The E60 530dA is SO nice to drive at 100-120 mph

Man, glad I have the ClearBra! I have -never- seen anything like that on my car.
