My Daughter and Son-in-Law may have talked me into a trip to Ireland (arriving Dublin May 29th).
I have never wandered thru the country and would welcome advice and tips; We'll be there for about 9 days.
Basic stuff would be useful - weather / climate; top places to see (non turisty would be great) places to avoid!

1. Drink a lot in small, local pubs.
2. Remember to drive on the other side of the road.
3. Just don't do 1 & 2 in that order.

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49439 This is a very comprehensive guide on what to do and see in the Emerald Isle. Its taken from a BMW motorcycle site. It pretty much has all the basic information. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need further information on Ireland.

A few things I would recommend:
1. Take this opportunity to visit Northern Ireland as well, especially Belfast - 3hrs from Dublin (they don't use Euros there)
2. Spend at least 2 nights in Galway - west coast of Ireland - about 3.5hrs from Dublin
3. Visit the cliffs of Moher - tours depart from Galway, very touristy but well worth it
4. In Dublin, like any big city there are areas you dont want to be in after 9PM.
5. Visit Temple Bar, Grafton St., Trinity College, etc. when in Dublin (its expensive)
6. Using http://www.buseireann.ie/ is a very good way to get around the entire country, if you don't plan on driving
7. Take an umbrella and a good windbreaker!
8. Not much in terms of international cuisine but lots of nice pubs and Irish restaurants
Enjoy, its a very relaxing, laid back place to be in! I've been back several times so PM me if you need more info or have any Q's.

Jeez, I would't go there if I was you
It depends on if you plan to travel or stay in one or two locations. Where are u flying in to and have you made any arrangements?
A previous post mentioned a few items but theres also Kerry (ring of Kerry) and Cork (Cobh and Kinsale) , Clew Bay and Cong in Galway, The Dublin and Wicklow Mountains etc. I could go on.
The Volvo Ocean racers are in Galway around that time. Might be worth a visit.
Have a look at The Discover Ireland site.
Not sure what else I can help you with but you can always ask.
:-)

Now I have technical questions for the road warriers of today!
My cell (Verizon Samsung Omnia) doesn't seem to have a SIM card ... have any suggestions for staying in contact while we're away? I was trying to download SKYPE on my Omnia but it won't install. I don't want to carry a notebook computer for 10 days though hitting hotspots seems pretty likely.
I was also thinking about picking up one of the cheap netbooks. I can find a basic one for $250 ... that would give me wifi, internet/email + photo transfers + easy SKYPE (again only i hotspots).
For local communications between the three of I was thinking about a couple of those 2-way radios - some advertise a 20+ mile range.
What is the best deal going on cell rentals - I know in the USA - for the USA I can pick up almost any package deal for enough minutes to communicate for less than $50.
Any advice would be appreciated!
