I see there a many apps that allow you to watch television on the Iphone. Some require a WiFi. Some do not show live television but streaming. Some require you to Twitter or Facebook the show. Which is the best all around app for watching live television on the Iphone?

the iphone does not have a native tv tuner. most of the available apps complement other hardware solutions like slingbox. the slingbox iphone app is 30 bucks! most of the other apps require a MAC or PC at a minimum

You need a good uplink speed at home to get a good quality stream. Most DSL connections are asymmetrical (ADSL) meaning you get a nice big pipe coming down (1Meg, 2Meg, 8Meg, higher) but uplink is relatively puny starting at 128kbps up to usually around 512kbps. For a reasonable video stream for a phone-sized screen you're looking at least 300kbps, preferrably 500kbps or higher. At only 128kbps you really won't enjoy the quality, even on a small phone screen.

It's something to think about before splashing out and buying a Slingbox. I'd have one right now if my uplink wasn't a puny 128kbps (and nothing currently higher possible where I live).
