My last Rotti scared a lot of people, mainly because of his size (he was 185 lbs and when he stood up was taller than I am - I am 6'4"), but he was the sweetest dog. Kids would ride him like a horse at the park. Still, I wouldn't have snuck into my house back then if I wasn;t known to him.
Most dogs are very friendly, but its almoat nature to them to protect there property. You cant fault them for that even. Now the debate is do we buy the muzzle? My dogs so docile that I even feel bad putting it on him. He even got nipped on the lip by my neighbors chow once when I was walking him. grrr, guess im going to have to, but that will certainly stop all the stares now we get at the dog runs. Like id even bring my dog to the runs if he bit other dogs, people are so stupid sometimes. I feel like hes going to look even more viscious now with that stupid thing on him.

Plus it's possible a muzzle could change his temperment, even after you take it off.

I have a simple solution to this problem mel. Change the name of the breed. Instead of a pit bull you are the proud owner of a hound/lab mix worked for me in every residential lease application ive ever filled out

if you look at the top 10 most viscous dogs chow chow are ranked higher than pitbulls and i totally agree with you a dog changes its attitude when you lease them up or put a muzzle, my dogs walk fine without a lease and listen to my gf and my every command but when the lease goes on they get alittle crazy because they know we are tieing them down.

Mel, the reason these laws come into play is because of irresponsible owners like these morons:
Pit Bull Attack

I agree completely, but remember, it's not an indictment of you or your dogs. It's because of the idiots that fight them or train them to be aggressive on purpose - you are just paying the price for their stupidity, nothing more.

wow, thats a horrible story. I heard something about that. Dog owners have to understand dogs as well, and I mean any breed. When any dog is the sole "pet" in the house it seems only natural for the dog to kind of let the next animal know(or in this case a baby) whos boss.. I think it really depends on the dog and ultimately how its raised. Its sad that dog owners sometimes are really unknowledgable about the pet they own and what they are capable of, regardless of what breed it is. Ive had some gentle giants in my lifetime, and some snappy pointers (biting me) so i think the range goes pretty far. It is sad when anything like that happens. I also know the unpredictableness of dogs and would never leave an infant in the room alone with any dog.

Its scary, and the dog had to be put down, im sure that was the best. Now im going to give my dog a shower/bath cause hes a little dirtbag right now..lol

Unfair to single out one breed, my dad and uncle have both been bitten by dogs neither was a pitbull. I love dogs but each and every one i meet must earn my trust and i never completely trust an animal. Most of the issues dogs have can be tracked back to things humans did wrong. Either through mistreatment, lack of training or careless handling.

Toughest thing for me was making my 4yr old understand she can't go up to ever dog and give them a bear hug like she does to ours.
