congrats. although this IS the time to buy, buying anything in California would give me the chills.
you said you bought it cash. I am assuming the payments you make reference to are taxes and insurance?
Anyway, Good luck. nothing makes you appreciate a home like the home you put your own sweat in to. We might need to add a new section to the forum for Homeowner DIY!
if you are putting in wood floors, may i make one suggestion. get VERY comfortable knee pads. it took me 3 days to lay my wood floors and even with knee pads my knees were in pain. kneedless to say i kneeded better knee pads. not being able to walk for 2 days after wasnt so kneet.

I'm so excited. it's a total rehab project. paid cash since it was being remodeled when the guy got evicted by the bank. The house will need new flooring, staircase, landscaping, paint, and whole new kitchen/appliances. Once it's done, i'm going to cash out the equity and make payments.
the house is in the hills of woodland hills south of ventura blvd if anyone is familar (it's not a cliffhanger). closest cross street is mulholland and canoga. i can't wait to take my car out in the canyons late at night. it's an odd feeling being broke. i had to tell my girlfriend to pay for her own gym membership! ha! okay maybe i didn't have to, but i saw a great opportunity to cut some costs.
wish me luck

I really do - but hey - drive carefully
Keep us posted, please, and good luck

Yep, being broke sucks, but it's well worth it. Believe it or not, you actually feel much better about yourself knowing you earned it on your own and it wasn't handed to you. Enjoy!

To the OP, best of luck on your new home. With the economy in shambles there are some fantastic buys now in real estate and those who have the cash or can get the credit to buy real estate now while it is low will make a killing when the economy eventually snaps back.
