.......especially at night when you don't have any reference points to approximate how fast you are going........

busted speedometer??

Sorry krozi, couldn't help it. I know I have done the same.

Seriously, get a good radar detector (don't know if it's legal in FL). Even then, remember to be safe. Remember radar detectors won't help much with Instant-on Radar. Just like Laser, if you are tagged, it's too late.

Cheers!

Well, I had my court date today and guess what happened? I get to the stand and he just says 78 in a 45 ummmmmm.... No fine and 4 hours of traffic school. So I told him thank you and showed him that I had already completed the safe driver course. As I left he thanked me and says thankyou for being proactive about the driver school.
See how nice it is to have friends with experience (and believe me I have ticket experience) on the forums! The average person would have went out and hired a lawyer to do the same thing you did for yourself! Honestly a little remorse, some being pro-active on your part, and a willingness to pay the fine is all they ever want from us anyway. Usually its just the money, so by them not fining you anything is really good on your part. WOW!

Glad that it worked out so well for you!

Lucky you.

In Finland if one would drive on a 80 km/h zone (50 mph) 130 km/h (80 mph)
the license would be canceled (at once) for a half year and the ticket would be huge.

I had a similar ticket and I got a traffic lawyer. $400 well spent, I walked away with 1 point.

I'm happy it ended well for you. Unfortunately in Massachusetts there's no such option and unless you show up in court with a lawyer or really do your homework (see one of my previous posts) you're pretty much nailed.

This is just another revenue enhancement in Massachusetts. This is why they call us "Massholes," or "Taxachusetts."

There was a email going around at work yesterday about tickets. I wanted to share this email, since it is a similar situtation.

"I always fight every ticket. By the way if another cop uses the
radar/Laser gun and they have a system in place where another cop pulled
you over and wrote the ticket. That is not the legal way to give out
tickets.

That is the easiest ticket to get out of. The cop that wrote the ticket
was not the actual witness to the event. All you have to do is get them
on the stand and ask the judge to drop the case because of "hearsay".
Anything out of the cops mouth is hearsay and is not allowed.

That is the easiest ticket to get out off. I have gotten out of many
that way.

You can get out of most tickets by telling the prosecution at your
arraignment that you will be filling a 'motion of discovery' and will be
requesting everything under the sun. If the prosecution does not
recognize what headaches you are about to cause them and drops the
charges then proceed with filling the discovery request.

Request the:
Access to radar gun manual ( there is always 1 chapter on about 15
difference ways the radar and laser can mess up)
Police training hours on the radar or laser device
Dash cam video
Officers notes

The only ticket you will not get out off is DPS tickets. I have actually
got a court order to have access to the archives in Austin. They remove
all the chapters in the radar gun manuals that show how many ways they
can mess up. They will then hand you a order given by the governor that
says you cannot see that chapter under some obscure law about
compromising ongoing investigations. This of course is ridiculous cause
that law is for higher level crimes not moving violations.

This is a true story and if you think that tickets are not a business
you should have seen what I had to go through to get the radar gun
chapter from DPS.

that information may or may not be accurate, and every state is different. next time you get a ticket hire one of those "got a ticket?" lawyers. they work very well, and for 150 bucks it is worth every penny. last ticket i recieved got dismissed because the cop didnt finish up and submit the paper work within 120 hours of the tickets issuance or some crap

...one thing i will say, if you choose to appear in court yourself, you BETTER KNOW THE LAWS! if you slip up once, you just sound like a typical douchebag that thinks they know what they are talking about but dont. THERE IS NO ROOM FOR ERROR when you are standing in court questioning the law. remember, the judge is on the cops side and there IS NO JURY in traffic court.

just pay the 150 to the guy who can pull out some obscure law and get you off, and save face because when you show up there and try to use some bullshit your dumb ass cousin told you, not only have you wasted a day in court but now you look like an asshole AND have to pay a fine AND have points on your license.
