I always park away from other cars, whenever I go anywhere. Even if it means the extra time to get to the place its well worth it. People these days are horrible.

The other day I saw the new Jaguar sedan at our local mall parking lot, and some teenagers about my age were standing on top of the car taking pictures. A freak occurrence most likely, but still.

Today at the gym I parked way out there, and when I came back there was an older 3 series parked to my left, and a newer 3 series coupe parked to my right. Now that was a fun experience, it looked real nice 3 bimmers parked together way out there in the back.

So how do you guys park ?

Bimmer owners know that it's safer to park next to one another. I do that all the time including parking away from everyone else and walk the distance.

I always park at the far end of the lot, NEVER park next to minivans, park next to a island to reduce my door ding chances by 50%. If I can find one, a tastefully modded BMW since the owner knows the value of the car. If I find one, a 5 series BMW. I tend to stay away from the E90 sedans since mostly women drive those cars. Except if it's a 335i or a 2 door.

Basic profiling baby!!!

Depends on the tree, a tree with no birds or falling leaves...that's fine. At night I also park next to light posts just for security reasons.

I park in the back 40 and hike in. Here in small town America that's only 10 spaces out.

There are a few spaces in the parking garage at work that go straight in rather than at an angle in order to squeeze in one more spot. The nice thing is they are in the corners and the car "next" to you is angled away from you several degrees, hence no way they can door you. The other car is 90 degrees behind you. Everywhere else, I park as high up and far away as I can. That is, don't park downhill from where people let shopping carts loose. If I have ladies in the car, I'll let them out at the door first since they are wearing heels and it's usually a schlepp.

I prefer to park in the less inhabited portions of a parking lot, rarely next to coupes (longer doors), alway WITHIN the lines of the parking spot (so nobody feels compelled to key my car or anything) and yes I avoid trees, street lights etc. (natural spot for birds to mass and take aim etc)!

Sometimes I don't trust other BMW owners lol. Because some BMWs out there, especially 3 series owners, are some high school girls who don't care about scratches or dings. There was one night I remember when some girl pulled up in a 05 745i and I SWEAR when she was curving into the available spot next to my car, that she was HELLA CLOSE to side-sweeping my car!

Back in my junior year in high school I remember a girl who drove a used X5 and while she was backing out of her spot, and talking on the phone, she side-swept the car on her left side

These are my rules for parking (this goes for ANY of my cars, unless I'm driving a rental car hehe)

1. End spot (if possible), preferrably an end spot where the driver's side is exposed, because there's a chance the car next to me might not have a passenger
2. Not on a slope.. Had a horrible experience once in a Vegas hotel garage where my RX300 got a scratch because the car next to me was a rental and he let go of his door and scratched my RX.
3. Under shade if the tree doesnt have falling leaves or tree sap (which I kinda know which trees those are)
4. Not next to a 2-door car
5. Not next to a car with so many door dings/scratches
6. Not next to a car who is too close to the line between me and him
7. Not next to a shopping car/shopping car return
8. Not next to a handicap spot

So far that's all I can remember. Usually I make up or remember my rules when I encounter that parking situation hehe.
