My Ride: MY RIDE is DA real .-) HAMANN 5 aka BLACK MAMBA born on 16/06/2005/delivered on 05/08/2005 as following:

So what is the truth???
can we wear a FULL FACE or OPEN FACE helmet on the track with a car (saloon) E60 with airbag inside?
There was an article that it is dangerous when the cheek meet with the helmet that meets w airbag.

Not sure that I know the answer, but, it is my understanding that Mercedes does not allow full faced helmets at Mercedes sponsored driving events.
I always wear an open face at driving events - see better, hear better. YMMV.

I've been looking for a helmet and have heard of this danger as well. Haven't looked into in much detail, but will probably end up with a closed face helmet. My main use will probably be autocrossing, driver's school and open lap events.
A closed helmet would seem to provide your face with more protection from impact, powder burns and such. The warning from SCCA or whoever it was is concerning though.
One of the reasons I'll probably end up with a closed face helmet though, is I'd like to do some kart driving in the future and this would require a closed helmet. Some driving schools which use formula type cars also require closed helmets.
Some local driving school events have passed so I need a helmet pretty soon. I'll probably buy online for better pricing, but am still looking for a local place where I can physically try them on.

From what I've read, if you:
Have no airbag then use full face helmet.
Have airbag then use open face helmet, or full face helmet with hans device, or full face helmet and turn off airbag.

Yeah, I feel ya on the brick and mortar, and might actually feel bad if it were a mom and pop store. Although if it were a large franchise or conglomerate, it probably wouldn't matter much to me.
Sure I may just be planning to look, but who's to say that I wouldn't buy at the store if the service and price were up to par.
I feel that it's my duty as an informed consumer to get the best product within my budget. If it's cheaper some place else, should I just spend more money elsewhere simply to uphold my morals?
You're on this forum, possibly just as a hobby or to socialize, but many people have joined for the sole reason of learning about the e60 so when the time is right, they can go to the dealer as an informed buyer. The internet is the way of the future, and there are some who bargain with various dealers and get everything done over email. The power of the consumer is a good thing, IMO of course.

Don't really have anything constructive to add to this debate, only that my helmet is open face, purely because I find it more comfortable to drive with than a full face one.
