The 5D takes amazing HD footage, but this video isn't taking advantage of that. These are time-lapse stills animated in sequence to make the video. I've done a few of these (none anywhere near as good as this of course). I love the deliberate parallax scroll effect.

Of course because it takes much skill and commitment to capture such moments. Moreover the camera alone is just a small part of the success story, the lenses most of the time make up more than the camera, and then there is A LOT of video editing.
Nevertheless astonishing video.
PS: I too have the camera and i will never be able to come up with such clips, but then again people that take such videos and still like those for example do this for a living and are real good at it.

wow this is an amazing video!! dramatic color and soundtrack from jonsi is fantastic, loved jonsi especially in "sigur ros"
have this camera, but video size in captureing full 1080p with audio is so huge..
need a bigger hardrive if you go full into videos..
btw this is a timelaps, its a sequence of photos,
all the photos then combined in video software in result a full 24 frame/sec video..
so its not a full video shot..
basically any dslr camera with more than 8mpx are able to do timelaps in full HD (1080p)..
