You can't control any recoil. The idea is to pick-up your target as quickly as possible after the recoil.

I'd call that recoil management. Any gun is going to recoil, you cant make it not. Semantics...

I'll agree with the second part...that's part of recovering after pressing off a shot (staying on the front sight, etc...). However, on the first part, recoil control is about fundamental dynamics and good fundamentals can be applied whether you're holding a .22 or a .44 Mag. handgun. There are some amazing guys out there...Todd Jarrett, Travis Tomasie, Matt Burkett, Rob Leatham, etc... that are just FM.

Took a little trip to SGC after work today. Got some instruction and got to unload a box of ammo. Took an HK45 and HK45C. Holy mother of.....Last time I shot a gun was my friend's .22 rifle when we were 12 years old. Wasn't expecting the recoil the first time around. Still not really accustomed to it. A bit startling. Also didn't help that some guy 3 stalls down was shooting a massive hunting rifle that sounding like a friggin' Howitzer.
Think I did pretty well for my first outing. Hit the center of the target the 'majority' of the time at 25-30 ft. The ones off center pretty much scattered in a vertical line (i.e. no right or left drift). I do know now that an HK compact is not for me. The grip was too small and felt awkward. All in all was pretty cool. May try to get back this weekend to try out a few more guns.
