To be honest, I don't understand the shield. I have a 4 y/o Powerbook that looks better than my 1 y/o Lenovo (work laptop). The most damage you will do is drop the thing and give it a dent - something the plastic films won't help with.

Since its Aluminum it scratches or will scratch on any surface you set it on, Also the GF wears bracelets and watches that could reek havoc, I know a drop will kill a lap top but it wont get marred and scratched. Less cleaning too
