you still can get a decent, complete system with this price range. i saw compusa has an ad in yesterday's papers and they are having some discounts on receivers and speakers but forgot which brand. you can go to audioreview.com to check some models' ratings. atlantic technology spkr pkg and marantz receiver are not bad. i think you should be able to find something close to $1.5k. don't waste money to buy those all-in-one (receiver/dvd player/spkrs) pkg bundle. oh, one thing forgot to ask. is $1.5k including all the cables? you know decent cables aren't that cheap. you might want to get them from ebay.
Thanks

i'm not an expert on this and i'm sure many of our members here could help. but imho, htib is more for people who know very little about audio, with tight budget/room space or lazy with all the setups. a lot of htib's receiver and dvd player are in one piece. if one is broken, you are pretty much screwed :'(. you are lucky if the dvd player is not working. you can easily buy one for $50 nowadays. but if the receiver is out, you have to spend at least $400 and up to buy a decent one. buying htib is like buying a car. you can buy a decent car in a package for decent price. but if can buy all the parts yourself and put them together easily, what would you do ?

Aloha guys,
I got a home theater system about 2 yrs ago. Definately don't go with htib set ups, you can't add or change speakers or components later on.
I have 7.1 system. It jams I went with Definitive technology. I think they are in the right price range and are rated high, and they really sound good. Check them out if you have a chance.
Make sure you get a dvd player with hdmi output.
Good luck.

Well, I dont really like the look of big speakers. I like little cube on top of a stand or hidding. I dont want to disturb the look of the living room. Secondly, yes, i know how connect those components. I dont think it is as hard as dealing with my current situation of not dating for such a long time
I read about the BOSE but every single AV forum i am reading are attacking the Bose. Maybe I should go with the new KEF?
Thanks for the advice.
