Hey everyone,

I am booking a flight for my sister. Departure Montreal, Landing MIAMI.

I saw on the local news that flight fares have increase and extra fees are being applied.

Can anyone recommend the best website where I can find cheap flights? I am currently using "expedia" to book for online tickets.

I also heard that some airlines are charging for luggage and carry-on.

Any help is appreciate it.

I would try orbitz.com - I use them a lot. Both Delta and American fly that route and should be the cheapest. Not sure about the carry on charge. I'm in Costa Rica right now and no one mentioned that on my flight.

Thank you CWS. Checking the website.

Are the US Airways and UNITED good airlines? I am new at all this, used to have the family agent do all the booking. But now she's away and I have to learn all this in 2 days. Sister has to leave Thursday.

Reading rules and regulation of each airline and about insurance and lost luggage is a PITA.

United and US Air are both Star Alliance members = high standards IMHO. They codeshare with Continental (also Star Alliance btw), which usually is cheaper. American hubs out of Miami, though, so that's your only shot at a nonstop. Also, I would bet you'll have full sized equipment with American nonstop, whereas with any others you may be on a dinky ERJ Express jet.

I'd try airline sites and check kayak.com - they'll give you searches on multiple sites and sometimes its a good tool to find the best deal, bc it can give you results from sites you may not normally use. I've been sort of screwed over by hotels.com once, who is a subsidiary or affiliate of expedia and that incident sort of left me with a terrible opinion of the entire organization. But in all fairness, I have booked with them a couple of times before and those times were fine, so maybe that was just an unlucky coincidence... or maybe they outsourced their customer service to some remote location, where they could give two sh*ts about why I need two king size squites to accommodate two adult couples... but I digress kayak.com, man

Thank you for the extra knowledge. Appreciate it. Do I have to read all their rules and regulations of each ariline? Or can I just book the cheapest return flight. Because this just happened to me.There were 4 seats left and while reading the rules and regulations, all 4 tickets were sold. I got pissed off and went to have breakfast. Now I just got back and the cheapest tickets are 100$ more than the ones i found 4hours earlier.

I checked Orbitz.com and prices are almost 75-100$ more expansive than the ones on expedia. Weird.

No. Only the airline you board initially. The bags will be transferred.

Both United and American Airlines are charging 25-30$/checked bag each way. So thats an additional 60$ to my ticket. Is that normal?
Sorry, I am new at this. Still learning

Unfortunately, yes, it is completely normal today. And it sucks. The only way to avoid it is to be an elite member of their awards club, but that perk usually requires 50,000 miles flown per year.
