I won't own many more cars in my lifetime, but none of them will be manufactured by a company owned by a government, or a union.

By Fiat? One of my most favorite cars was my 850 Spyder.

Regardless, I think Fiat and the rest of us will finally see the demise of Chrysler.

Ford will be the only company to survive. GM and Chrysler will go bankrupt.

+1

Giving the union the majority ownership stake is like having the foxes guard the hen house.

Both Fiat and Alfa-Romeo designs great cars. The Alfas are also very nice to drive.

But for some reason they don't last for more than 30,000 miles or so and in the winter
they have a lot of electrical problems.

Does it have anything to do with Italians? I don't know, but the quality is not as
good as in German and Japanese car.

Ric, WHEN WE WANT (and this happens just a few times) we are able to **DESTROY** German cars. And not just in style (that is what to do every time), but as performance as well.

Maybe the fender will not fit 100% exactly with the bumper, but your italian car (especially Ferrari and Maserati) will be more elegant and classy than the stupid Mercedes competitor. Example: how many cars do you know better than this?

FIAT Group includes:

Fiat (little cars, reliable little engines - and Americans will discover, for example, the 1.3 MJTD, 90 HP and 22 kml/60 mpg)
Alfa Romeo (always better than BMW cars, till 90s - bankrupt, Alfa was bought by Fiat and their car begin to suck)
Lancia (it won a lot in rallies)
Maserati (luxury cars)
Ferrari (supercars)

Some cars by Fiat suck and I'm the first to say it, BUT they have a lot of technology, as enviromental technology (they have the lowest emissions in EU), performance, etc.
R & D by Fiat seems to rule, from what I hear.

Now that they will be able to sell on USA market I bet we'll see V6 TT etc.
And maybe tomorrow V8.

I don't know exactly their numbers, but at the end they must sell 1.5ML cars per year, so not a so little manufacturer.

In any case, the 500 is not bad, I drove the 1.4 100 HP and it's a good car!
The Alfa MiTo will have 200-250 HP soon - on 1100 Kg or so.

In any case (2), French cars suck

Edit:
And now Opel, so 6 MLN/cars per year ^^
Opel already uses some Fiat diesel engines.
