Our friend Dr.Divyendu Sinha who was a prominent man in our community died today after a brutal beating he received on Friday night.
"Three 17-year-olds were charged with murder today, authorities said, after an Old Bridge man died from the injuries he received Friday night when he and his sons were attacked near their home.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan said Divyendu Sinha, 49, died at 4 a.m. at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. On Sunday, friends and neighbors described Sinha as a former college professor and consultant who was "a very nice person."
Prakash Waghmare, who said he has known Sinha for 10 years, called his friend "a very gentle person" who earned his Ph.D. from Stevens Institute of Technology and worked for a time at the College of Staten Island.
Waghmare said Sinha was an author of several books on computer imaging and most recently had been working as a consultant to Siemans.
Waghmare said Sinha and his sons, who were not seriously injured in attack, were going for a walk when "a car came by and they pounced on him."
Authorities said they received a 911 call around 11:30 p.m. Friday. When officers arrived, they found Sinha on the ground outside his house.
One of the suspects was arrested shortly after the attack and the other two were arrested and charged later Saturday with assault, authorities said.
The three juveniles, who were not identified due to their age, had a hearing today before Superior Court Judge Roger Daley in New Brunswick, who remanded them to the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center. They are scheduled to return to Family Court on Thursday for a preliminary hearing on the murder and murder conspiracy charges."
