My Ride: 545i SMG with Limited Slip Differential

Last August, while in Uxbridge the mechanic was installing the limited slip differential on my 5, I was in London all day to waste time .
Near Buckingham palace I sighted this red E60 :

Do they have the E60 only in London ?

Which engine in your opinion, 3.0d ? 525d, 530d or 535d ?

Cheers!

I think 520d. That's what they have here in Germany.

Those red ones are used by the London Metropolitan Police's Diplomatic Protection Group. I spotted an E39 years ago (see pic) and actually went up to them and asked the coppers what they were driving:

They had no idea, and fished out the registration documents to show me... it was a 530d. Given that, my bet would be that they're running the 535d now. A number of British police forces across the country use E60s too, as do the German highway patrol. No idea what engines they are running though.

With a 520d they can't chase a Mini Cooper either

So let me get this straight -- in various countries across the globe, the E60 is used as a police car and an E-class is used as a taxi cab...

That explains a lot, doesn't it?

I live in the Strathclyde area of Scotland, the Road Police have quite a few E60 530D and 535D.

Cops love them and the Accountants love the BMW bulk buy discount.

Stewart.
