Iceman, what's this all about in your signature: "change of windows (standard to protective)"? I though this was only necessary in L.A.? Do you get shot at over there too?

I never moan about the gas price. I wish it could go as high as Europe so that big SUV and truck would deminish from the road.

So you are OK with a 500 HP M5 with a V10, but a SUV seems excessive to you?

How many M5 would you find on the street compared to non-efficient SUV?
I would support SUV when it's truely used for it - like more than 70% of the time, but I see people driving it just because of the ride height, SUV bandwagon, me-too kind of thing.
Think about Hummer, Ford Excursion, Aviator, etc.
What about super unefficient Caterpilla machinary? I support those because they're utilised for their own purpose 100% of the time.

Also, think about resource for next 10 or 20 years, and think about the war in Iraq.

So, it's OK to have a way-overpowered sports car with a big V8 or V10 that is engineered to run laps on a racetrack, something almost no users will ever utilize, but it's not OK to have a SUV with a big engine that is engineered to go offroad, something which most people will not use?

Seems like you have to pick your position--either vehicles should be maximally fuel efficient and cabable of only A to B transportation, or they should not. Whether or not it's an SUV or a M5 doesn't make a difference as far as I can see. When someone selectively singles out SUVs and ignores the fact that other vehicles are just as impractical and fuel-inefficient, that is political.

Now back to the subject...

Actually before I got the 545 I was completely against Monstrous SUVs (not the moderate sized practical ones). But now after filling up gas every week I look at the SUVs as being more comfortable transportation for similar expenses.

Well here in the city I am always driving behind one ot those SUVs anyway and in the limited city lanes I have lost races to many SUVs who just seem to catch me at the next light.

And now I wonder is the V8 545i really necessary I could get better comfort and electronic gizmo prowess in an SUV or Minivan.

Or maybe I should move to incorporate some highway in my daily commute

I am psychologically prepared for double what we are paying so I am good for a few weeks :'( ... I here you about the SUV thing I think. Obvioulsy owNing one I am not against them but what I don't understand is the need or desire to have such big ones...The Excursion! come on that thing is ridiculous. Rented one last year and almost got stuck in a parking garage because of its size. And trucks..for those that need them great but most guys with trucks don't use them for what they were designed.

In the end it's everyone's choice to drive what they want and for those of us that can afford it than we should all be greatful...but those GD minivan's. Get off the ROAD!

Overhere we pay for the unleded 98 octane gasoline about $ 4,92 per gallon
(1 US gallon = 3,785412 litres and 1 ? = $ 1,2).

That is about 1,30 ? per litre.
