I just got this e-mail forwarded from my g/f in regards to how much certain driving infractions will cost in Cali, effective 7/1/07 :

California - New Driving Fines - Effective 7/1/07
Importance: High

New California Laws effective 7/1/07
New Driving Fines for 2007

1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting 7/1/07 (The $271 posted on the highway is old). Don't do it agai because 2nd time is going to be double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended.

2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don't cross the lane on solid lines or intersections.

3. Block intersection - $485

4. Driving on the shoulder - $450

5. As of 07/01/07 cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving. Ticket is $285. They will be looking for this like crazy - easy money for police department.

6. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of 07/01/07. Again, cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.

7. Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts - both passengers and drivers get tickets .

8. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit.

9. DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!

stay off the cell phones guys. thats a big one. be safe, while driving and not getting any tickets.

They better change those signs then. You can't post one thing and do another. Thats crazy. You should be able to fight that one.

When I am on the 405 in a bad traffic jam. I can't resist, I always pop into the carpool lane. Hope I don't get caught one day, I've been doing it for years. Knock on wood.

Here's another real deal: CHP in cruisers are now armed with LIDAR. I've seen a CHP on the side of the highway parked perpendicular to the road shooting LIDAR everyday on I-680 south of Pleasanton. Up until then, I've only seen them on CHP motorcycles (aka LEO's: does anyone know why they are called that?) V1 didn't pick up b/c either he wasn't shooting at me or it wasn't on when I was passing.
