I strongly suspect the General has worked much harder to get to his position in life and and has done much, much more for his country than this lady.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely...
Absolutely. Which is why protecting our system of checks and balances, constituyional protections, an independent judiciary and a free and robust media is so important. Elections alone are not a sufficient check on the courrpting nature of great power.

But that should not mean that she lor any other Senator should look upon everyone in a lower position in the political hierarchy to be little ants.
I don?t consider the military and the U.S. Senate in a common hierarchy.

Most general officers in the military command vastly more respect than most politicians I know of.

The way politicians are behaving, these days, is outrageous. Particularly Boxer. I think the democrat displayed a lot of damn gall dressing down General Walsh.

Where I come from she wouldn?t even deserve ?mam?am?.

I agree that most general officers command far more respect than politicians.

But on the issue of actual hierarchy in our system of government, doesn't promotion to General and then promotion within the General officer corps require confirmation by the US Senate? If so, that answers the question of political hierarchy. The military is our country is under civilian control -- a touchstone, bedrock feature of all strong democracies.

That being said, Senator Boxer should have treated the General with respect rather than dressing him down for nothing. Because she did not, she's been justly flayed in the media.

Our military officers deserve to be treated with respect by our political leadership even though they must answer to and be accountable to that political leadership.

The United States is not a ?democracy?. The United States is a Constitutional Republic, regardless of what we hear from various politicians, pundits and government school teachers.

There is no mention whatever of "democracy" the founding documents of the United States. Our founders knew better.

The prime example of a democracy is a lynch mob ? or more simply two wolves and a goat voting for what to have for dinner.

Ma'am and Sir is of much more respect then Senator is

she obviously wanted to throw him off balance as if this really bothered her she would have spoken to him when the cameras were off

He'll remember that to, so she better pray that her children dont enter the army because the sins of the parent will transfer to the children
