Best Buy is next. High prices, unknowedgeable staff, poor selections, and low inventory. Internet prices are much cheaper, tons of options, and AV products get shipped to the door. Plenty of research material available on the internet as well. Wish BMW would sell cars over the Internet, I always know what I want to buy.

ya'll shouldn't be shopping at BB or CC... you've got so many options on the internet for much cheaper prices.

Internet is cheaper but it's also nice to go into a store and look/touch/feel/examine the product before you buy.

True that. Especially if you're impulsive like me and want to have it right away. I sometimes have no patience.

You can add poor top-management to that list ... It's no surprise, CC had it coming.

Poor management comes from the consumer driven desire for lowest prices. Cutting salaries is is the best way to ensure incompetency in any chain. However consumers try to have it both way. People go into stores looking for advice, get it and then buy online. Short term they think they've won. Long term their choices are growing fewer and fewer of where they can go to shop in physical stores.

What this means for the companies that produce the products is that they will produce less and innovate less. There is less opportunity for research growth for them because the financial outcomes are much less than before. Tech like OLED from sony and Toshiba will not become mainstream (if at all) for many years.

I was a manager for both CC and BB and I can tell you that in my stores we would cut the best possible deals we could while still being profitable but most customers went to Newegg or another online retailer once they learned what some of my best employees took years to learn. I couldnt give them the pay they needed to continue and I had to let them go and replace them with unskilled underpaid kids.

And then customers complained about the lack of service. You want good service, you have to be willing to pay a slight premium for that.

I dont mean to be a shit here but being price driven ONLY is how trade knowledge dies out. There are hundreds of those employees that are installers who have been doing it for years and know exactly how to optimize any system for little to no money (ghost center for instance).

A lot of these people will not be able to get jobs in this field anymore because younger adults (18-30) are willing to do the research instead of paying for the advice and being done with it.

What does this leave? The ultra high end shops (that we cant afford) and the bottom of the barrel shit (k-mart, costco, walmart) and all the medium grade bang for the buck dies out except for online and this is what the majority of people shop for. Online retailers will be able to dictate their policies even more iron fisted than before.

I wouldnt be surprised if you start seeing online prices go up along with no returns on anything that isnt defective. Newegg is already that way for tvs.

I'm actually amazed how Best Buy is surviving considering their prices are the most expensive for everything I've shopped for.

They own and buy out the competition such as future shop, Mag, Suncoast, FYE and some other ones.
