Yes, I've donated cars in the past; the IRS guidelines have changed limiting the tax benefit as noted in the pdfs already provided.
Most donated cars are sent to auction by third parties contracted to / or by the charities. As in evaluating any fund-raising program try to learn or pay particular attention to the actual financial benefit that the charity receives ... in many cases they receive a very small %age of the value obtained when the cars go to auction.
