I agree with the article, there is no loyalty anymore. Back when people used to buy the same brand over and over they were also typically working for the same company for 20-25 years and everything was fine. Now there is uncertainty in the job market - no matter how "secure" you think your job is you are expendable. The result is consumers are looking for more value.
I have owned 36 cars, everything from Dodge, to Jeep, to Nissan, to Acura, to BMW, and I don't think I will ever own anything other than BMW anymore.

That was unheard of for BMW,likewise you couldn't negotiate a discount worth having off the list price .That no longer is the case, E60's were pre-registered in 2007 and again in the spring of this year here in the UK.Savings off list price were substantial.So,having taken advantage,I consider that I have got value for money and I certainly don't intend to sway from the brand.
I just hope that when I fancy another model I can get a similar deal!
