I know there are some gamers and tech savvy people here so here goes...

I want to be able to keep my kids' DS games safe from getting lost, etc. so I want to get one of those backup cards that lets you store images of your games on a micro-SD card. An acquaintance of mine has the R4DS and seems to be happy with it but when I did some searching, I found a bunch of other ones too.

Does anyone have any experience with these things?

Here's a list of them that all seem similar:
CycloDS
DS-Xtreme
iTouchDS
M3
R4DS
EDGE
EZ-Flash

Basically, the R4DS seems to be able to do what I want but it doesn't have the ability to handle the larger SDHC cards so that's the biggest strike against it that I could find. Is there any one that is now the "latest and greatest"?

Thanks for the help!

I'm only familiar with the R4DS and it has worked great. it does have that 2 gig limitation (i think) but personally, i only play a handful of games in a given period and it's easy enough to switch out games and such. And i only play games, not sure if there is media capabilities with the software so i don't store any other kind of files on the card.

I went ahead and ordered an R4 yesterday. I think for now I can do without the suport for the higher capacity microSD cards...

I found it for less than $20 (no memory card) here:
http://www.nxpgame.com/r4ds-r4-ds.html
(they offer bundles with memory cards too but I already had a microSD laying around...)

They shipped it today and I should have it either tomorrow or Wednesday.

I have the r4 car too. I have more than 10 games, but only play with 2.

Great choice Rudy!

The R4 price actually fell one dollar from Sunday (when I ordered) to today (one day later). Usualy, I'd call and complain about it but it's not worth it for a buck.

I think the R4 might be getting discounted at some of these stores because some of the newer chips are probably selling better since they support the higher capacity microSD cards, etc. I imagine the R4 is sort of the stable chip that's been around a while and is of a proven design but I'm guessing that the newer designs are starting to become more in demand and the resellers need to unload their inventory of the R4 chips before they become obsolete.

I figured for less than $20, it'll be fine for my son to use on his DS. My main purpose is to be able to keep the "master" game cards safe so he doesn't lose them, etc. Once my daughter gets a few more games, I'll probably try one of the other cards (or get another R4 at rock-bottom prices) so she can use one too. (Right now, she can't read so it'll be tough for her to choose a game from a text listing...)
