Wanted to share this. Its always been cheaper to order parts and assemble your own pc rather than buying it new from a store, not to mention more customized. I've always built them from scratch since I was younger. If your thinking of getting a new PC soon you may consider building one, heres a good guide.

Big Beast - 8 Athlon 2800 MP's, 4GB RAM, 4 x 500GB SATA drives, 1 GB ATI video card, and 7.1 surround sound (what do I do with it? ANYTHING I want, that's why I built it)
Little Beast - 4 Athlon 2800 MP's, 4 GB RAM, 3 X 320 GB SATA Drives, 1 GB ATI Video, 7.1 surround sound - this handles most of my storage needs now and also acts as my RADIUS server for my WPA2 deployment (you aint getting into my network unless I want you to)
Also in my network:
Cisco PIX 525 -good luck getting in, I have no less than 120 dummy ports
Cisco 7206 router
Cisco 3750 switch
Cisco Cat 5500 switch
Cisco 2621 router x 4
Cisco 6509 Chassis - 4 24 port blades
That is what I have currently connected, along with PS3, TV (yes it has ethernet), a few access points around my house (D-Link mixed G and N)

agreed, apart from ps3 (which is nice) but the online game play cannot be matched on Xbox...Gears of War 2 is amazing.

Let me guess - that's about 10 - 20 grand worth of hardware?

I've had better success lately shopping the major brands for a "sale". At least one year warranty is handy if some component of a factory system goes bad.
But if you're curious and want to "build your own" another approach is to pick up a "bare bones" kit from places like TigerDirect ... you may wind up with a slightly robust configuration and save a few dollars.

I need to test config before sending them out, easier this way, the power bill isn't the problem - getting twist locks installed was a bitch. At work I do have a lab, usually with around 50-100 switches and routers depending on what I'm doing. I don't work on mom and pop networks - strictly enterprise. So the inventory goes with the territory
