Sources close to BMW say that the company is about to unviel a radical new material, which will allow them to build every car at least 20% lighter.

Polar Foil is manufactured using nanotechnology and provides incredible strength and insulation allowing panels to be manufactured much more cost effectively and without bulky and expensive insulation materials.

Apparently, even seat design will be radically improved with the new units being hollow but just as supportive, comfortable and strong as before.

The real leap forward is that parts of engines, body panels and gearboxes, which are not under the most severe stress, can be made of a fibre based version of Polar Foil.

The 20% reduction in overall weight will have massive implications for both performance and fuel economy.

Personally, I feel that this is a technology which will have to be shared quickly around the world - it's that significant. Please don't ask me for my source just yet as I'd be a fool to give away a confidence.
